 Win’Design access rights management

1 – Notion of right

A right is the authorization granted to a user to have access to a function or to do an action.

Generally, the access to a function means the ability to execute the function or not : generating documentation, executing a query, converting a diagram(CDM generation <--> LDM), modifying graphic options, etc ...

For some functions, this right is completed by complementary authorizations of creating, modifying or deleting, for instance for the queries, the database drivers, ...

The actions of creation, modification, deletion, displaying are related to :

- the workspaces
- the models
- the diagrams
- the objects

The granted rights are generic and concern all the object instances of Win’Design.

Therefore, a user having a modifying right on the objects will be allowed to modify any object stored in Win’Design repository.

To restrict these possibilities, two complementary options can be defined :

1 - Modifying and deleting right restricted to the creator of the object
2 - Modisying and deleting right restricted to the members or the creator's group

The access rights to Win’Design are regrouped by category (homogeneous subset of rights), that can be redefined by the administrator.

 2 - Notion of group

A group is an homogeneous set of users granted with the same rights.

A group can be for instance :

- The representation of a working organization (ex : project group A)
- The representation of a level of skills (ex : project manager, contracting authority, ...), or any grouping of homogeneous elements.

Groups can be subdevided in sub-groups.

The rights categories are granted to the group or sub-group level.

3 - Notion of user

A user is a person who intervene in the use of Win’Design. He is identified by his name and first name and by a password.

This password allows the user to identify himself at the opening of Win’Design and to search the rights granted to the user’s group.

Notice : to define the access rights, it is advisable to define the rights categories at first, then the groups and finally the users.

4 – Administration function

To access the administration of Win’Design, select the "Administrator" function in the "Administration" menu and check "Enable administration functions".

You will find more details about the administration functions of Win’Design in the on-line help

Notice : administration functions are only available for the network license.

  New management of the profile

The access to the customizing functions of Win’Design has been simplified.

The “Profile configuration” dialog of the Version 8.00 provides a direct access to the whole configuration options impacting the design.
These options concern :

- The definition of the diagrams managed in the Business Process module
- The meta model customization
- The graphic options
- The objects palettes
- The presentation of the list of models displayed in the “New diagram” dialog.

The configuration of the diagrams types in the Business Process module has been matched up with the standard abilities of Win’Design, particularly for the activities that can be defined (processes, procedures, tasks, …)

The previous device involved some restrictions of upgradeability that have then all been suppressed.

In particular, the activity notion becomes a generic concept, declinable in type and stereotype (as all the other objects in Win’Design).

That enables in better conditions, the coexistence of activities having a different type in the same diagrams.

In addition, this simplification allows to group in a single file (instead of three) the whole set of all these parameters.

 1 – Displaying the « profile configuration » dialog

Select the "Standard profile - Modify ..." function in the "Options" menu to display the « Profile configuration » dialog.

Select the item to be configured (common objects or diagram type in the Database, Business Process or Object module), and then activate one of the icons to display the dialogs to :

Configure the meta-model (types, stereotypes, extended characteristics, ...)
  Configure the graphic options
  Configure the objects palettes
Configure the types of diagrams and the presentation of the list of models displayed in the “New diagram” dialog

  Ergonomic innovations ...

1 – Grid

A grid can now be displayed and acvivated in the windows to help in the diagram designing.

To display and activate or Hide and desactivate the grid, click once on

1.1 – Available options of the grid

To display the « grid options » dialog, select the " Grid" function in the "Options" menu.

This dialog enables the following selections :

- Display or hide the grid
- Activate or disactivate the grid
- Modify the size and the style of the grid squares
- Select an alignment (magnetization) of the objects in the center or on the edge of the grid squares

1.2 – Moving the objects in the grid

The objects can be moved in the grid in two ways :

Either by selection and moving with the mouse. As soon as the object has been moved, it is magnetized on the grid according to the chosen option (center or edge of the squares)
Or by selection and moving step by step using the top, down, left and right arrows of the keyboard.

Notice : this step by step moving option can also be used if the grid is not activated.

2 - Edition of the objects name

The automatic edition of the object name at creation, makes the opening of the object pop up useless to enter its name.

To edit the name afterwards for modification, place the cursor on the name of the object, press and hold the left mouse button.

To close the editing box, click on  to close and save the modifications, or on  to close without keeping the modifications.

As the objects contain other objects (ex : properties for an entity, ...), the name of the included objects is also editable.

To rename an object like another one, click on or select the "Rename like .." function in its pop up menu.

2.1 – Avalailable options for this function

To activate or disactivate the text edition, select the "Editing text" function in the "Options" menu.

The "Editing text options" dialog is displayed.

Check or not the option to activate the editing function at object creation.

The second option enables the editing function for modification. The click duration can be specified.

3 – Object bar

As the object is selected, a bar is displayed at its top, displaying several icons for a direct access to the size, style and text displaying options.

Click on this icon to adjust the object size automatically to the size of the text (opened padlock) or to fix the size (locked padlock)

Click on this icon to display the name of the object on 1, 2 or 3 lines. The number is the number of lines on which the text is displayed. The letter indicates the text related to the icon (N = name, L = Libellé, A = alias).

If the libellé and/or alias are displayed, complementary icons are inserted in the bar.

Click on this icon to place the text of the object (inside, above, under, on the left or on the right).

Click on this icon to define the object as a container or not (any object placed inside the container will move simultaneously with it).

Click on this icon to enable the free moving of the object, without magnetization on the grid.

Click on this icon to display the styles options attached to the object.

Click on this icon to decompose the object

Notice : the object bar is displayed on option. Select the function : « Tools bar – Object bar » in the « View » menu or « Object bar » in the "Options" menu.

4 – Group/Dissociate objects function

The « Group/dissociate objects » function has been added. Select two objects at least and click on the icon  to create a group. Select a group and click again on this icon to dissociate the objects.
